Welcome to my E-Portfolio

This Blog is a showcase of my works and accomplishments. For now, it mainly consists of projects and assignments I have created during my first year of the Marketing Management program @ BCIT. Some of these projects are individual and others team based. On a more personal level this blog also showcases many of my interests and hobbies etc. I intend to update this Blog as so its is recent and up to date.

As for my aspirations of the future you ask? It has been a longtime dream of mine to work for a large corporation. Since I was young i have been fascinated by the Disney company. I think for me it is the vast dimension of this company that makes it so appealing to me. Just being on Disney property or even watching a Disney film stirs up a little magic inside me. Its amazing how a company can provide you with that type of feeling. maybe its because i grew up with the classic Disney films or pinnochio, winnie the poo or even toystory, but ive come to realize that the imagineers over at Disney definitely know what they are doing. They created this magical feeling and hopefully one day i can be a part of it.

Green Computing

In the age of today everyone is striving to be green. Energy efficiency is front and center. Beyond that there are several ways you can be a green user through properly maintaining your computer system and ensuring it remains out of the land fill sooner than it needs to be.

  1. Do you really need that new computer? Back up all of your old files and reinstall your operating system. Your computer will run faster and use less power. WHY?, useless process or programs you seldom use that run in the background will be eliminated from your device, freeing up valuable resources as well
  2. Repurpose that old computer for the kids rather than buying them a new one. Install the latest version of a free operating system called Ubuntu. It’s simple and straight forward and is extremely quick on older machines.
  3. Get a new monitor. Get rid of that CRT monitor. Pick an energy complaint one and recycle the old one. Not only does it look good but it saves power as well. When you are in fact ready for a new computer keep this monitor for the years to come. Why upgrade if it still works great?
  4. Don’t be talked into buying a system with more power or options than you need. Stick with the most basic system you can find if all you do is browse the web, email, and word process. Even the cheapest of today’s systems have more than enough oomph to handle this! Cheaper systems use less power.
  5. Adjust your settings to turn off your monitor after a recommended 5 minutes without use. If you’re not looking at it doesn’t need to be on. Have the computer power down in the evening or when you are away for the longest period of time. If you use your computer less than twice a day, power it off after each use.
  6. Vacuum your computer. Carefully unhook everything and open the case with 2 easy screws. Despite what you think you really don’t need to be an expert to do this. Once opened carefully vacuum all the dust out of the case but do not physically touch the vacuum to any of the internal components unless you know what you are dealing with. Removing dust increases air flow and reduces energy loss due to heat.

Overall just as a car needs maintenance so does your computer. If you ensure the hardware and software are in optimum running condition you can expect many more years of life out of your existing system keeping it out of the landfill and reducing waste.

Are we Ready for E-Books?

•November 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Is the world ready for ebooks?    Or maybe the better question: Are e-book readers ready for the world. it seem that in the past short months ebook  readers have come along way. some example readers are the barnesand nobel nook, the amazon kindle.

Both of these devices are manufactured by companys that sell ebooks. it will be interesting to see which device chooses to be more popular.

I myself am actually interested in purchasing ebook device, but i think i will wait until these products have been market tested and the reviews are in. at the moment i am leaning more towards a device similar to the nook being android based and having two screens built in, one color touchscreen and one being e ink.

like i said  for now ill wait!
